After enquiring at a TREK bike store, it turns out that there are several models depending on the year of manufacture So return the product."
unpleasant surprise... my fault
"i thought the 105 5700 cocottes were the same as the 5600 . . big mistake on my part. they can be mounted, yes . . but they don't fit the shape of the much thinner shifter . . so they're unpleasant and unstable to use. This does not call into question the quality of the Shimano product."
