Make a difference!

"Personally, since I'm tall (6'2"), I switched to a Shimano crankset with 180mm cranks to get a better balance between my height and the crank length. . . Well, I’m thrilled—it really makes a difference. I find the pedaling smoother and better suited to my body type. It doesn’t make me any better, but now, thanks to the longer lever arm of the 180mm cranks, I can use a chainring that’s two teeth larger. (So maybe I’ve actually gotten better, lol.) The difference in length compared to 175mm cranks doesn’t bother me when clearing obstacles or climbing steps, but it’s something to consider when buying if you have a fairly low-slung bike. As for choosing the XT, it was a choice of the heart; given the price difference, I didn’t hesitate. Weight-wise, I saved 100g (including the bottom bracket) compared to my SRAM NX 175mm crankset."
