"I bought this chainring to replace the 28/38 on my XT M8000, paired with the rest of the Shimano drivetrain from the same series—the 11-42 cassette. Honestly, in single-ring mode, it works really well!! My bike is an All-Mountain. Technical descents are a joy because before, it was either too much power or too much torque; on the flats, no complaints, and on climbs it’s the same—it works really well, though you might just have to stand up a bit at the end… maybe a 46-tooth chainring would work better. . . . The downside is road-style descents or marl-edge trails, because there you’re too high in the gears. . . . This chainring is awesome but only when used exclusively for mountain biking! You can still tackle some road sections, but it’s really a hindrance."
