Bedding in is an important step when your MTB brake pads or MTB discs need replacing. Unfortunately, this is too often neglected to the detriment of brake performance. Vibrations or squealing can occur if this process is carried out incorrectly.

Steps

Reminder: a disc bedded in with a certain type of pad will only be compatible with that type until it is replaced.

  1. Perform a series of 20 moderate braking actions from 20 to 5 km/h. It is important not to stop between braking actions in order to ventilate the MTB disc and the calliper properly.

  2. Then stop to let your brake cool down for 15 minutes.
Probikeshop tip: take the opportunity to ride back up the hill!

  3. Now perform a series of 10 more forceful braking actions, without coming to a complete stop, from 30 to 5 km/h. It is important not to stop between braking actions in order to ventilate the disc and the calliper properly.

  4. Move on to the other brake by repeating steps 1 to 3.
